White Pastel Pencils

White pastel pencils have strong and compact 5mm diameter cores that allow broad strokes and rich lines. These pencils allow for chiaroscuro techniques: achieve exceptional contrast where highlighting will bring movement out (almost like a three-dimensional effect) and provide a greater dimension to your artwork. White pastel pencils are made with titanium dioxide and white clay.

Carbon Pencils

Carbon is the perfect pencil for sketches and drawings where a particular intensity of the stroke is needed. Compared to charcoal, which is totally matte, Carbon leaves a semi-opaque black mark. Bring out the natural shine by increasing the pressure of the stroke.

The natural wax binder ensures the pigment adheres perfectly to paper, particularly rough paper. Light-grain paper allows for intense, smooth and uniform blacks. Carbon is partially blendable: it can be drawn across the paper but only for short stretches as it rapidly lightens out.

Carbon Extra Dark Pencils

Recommended for giving exceptional intensity to drawings, and for defining volumes and areas of deep darkness. Combined with a white pastel pencil, it creates deep chiaroscuro effects in decisive contrast with the highlights. This pencil combines dry matter with natural and synthetic oils to obtain the most strong and powerful black available among drawing pencils.

Lyra is Nuremberg's oldest pencil factory, founded in Germany in 1806 by Johann Froescheis. The business was run in a very modest fashion for around 40 years, operating only as a craftsman’s workshop.

When Johann’s son, Georg Andreas Froescheis, took over the business in 1848, he launched the mass production of pencils and began using a water-powered mill wheel to start machine-assisted production in 1860.

In 1868, the LYRA symbol was registered as a brand.
