Features
White Pastel Pencils
White pastel pencils have strong and compact 5mm diameter cores that allow broad strokes and rich lines. These pencils allow for chiaroscuro techniques: achieve exceptional contrast where highlighting will bring movement out (almost like a three-dimensional effect) and provide a greater dimension to your artwork. White pastel pencils are made with titanium dioxide and white clay.
White Pastel Dry Pencil
- Made with oil-free, plant-based binders
- Provides defined brightness and enhances light areas for chiaroscuro effects
- Finely ground pigment is ideal for soft blending and well-defined highlights
- Great for making quick and suggestive touches on white and colored paper of a variety of texture
- Fixative spray is highly recommended
White Pastel Oil Pencil
- Made with oils and waxes for a smooth, dense and pasty core, allowing for intense and full sketches
- Achieve deep contrasts and complete coverage with the soft and smooth lead
- Blend using oil-based mediums or by overlaying or dragging other oil-based color *recommended to use with canvas or high-quality artist paper: always test your surface first before final artwork
- Not easily erasable due to a high concentration of pigment
Sanguine Pencils
Made from iron oxides and clays, Sanguine is the must-have pencil to create beautiful portraits and is excellent for figures and landscapes. Its characteristic reddish color is very bright and intense, allowing for deep contrasts. The medium, non-orange tone is reminiscent of the color used by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo in their drawings and sketches. Lyra Rembrandt Sanguine pencils are made with real cedarwood and feature a 5mm diameter core.
Sanguine Dry Pencil
- Made with natural binders
- Friable and fluid, it’s easy to shade and blend with fingers or other blending tools
- Strokes range from rich and intense to fine and clean for detailing
- Color can range from light reddish and transparent shade to a full, dark and saturated tone
- Blends perfectly due to the fine milling of pigment which penetrates evenly and uniformly into the fibers of paper
- Can be erased with a kneadable eraser
- Sharpen with knife and shape lead with a scraper or sandpaper
- Fixative spray is highly recommended
Sanguine Oil Pencil
- Made with oil and wax for a soft and smooth core
- Full-bodied consistency delivers a compact, soft and decisive stroke
- On satin or fine-grained paper, this pencil leaves a thick, uniform and intense stroke
- Ideal for primitive and fast sketching, it immediately brings pictures to life with vitality and expression
- Blend using oil-based mediums or by overlaying or dragging other oil-based color *recommended to use with canvas or high-quality artist paper: always test your surface first before final artwork
- Easy to sharpen
Sepia Light Pencils
Sepia Light is slightly darker than Sanguine and the perfect midway point towards Sepia Dark. The shade is still reddish and very intense, which is ideal for creating shadows especially when used together with Sanguine. Perfect for rough sketches, like figure drawings and portraits, as well as landscapes. The 5mm core is rich in pigment and encased in real cedarwood.
Sepia Dark Pencils
Sepia Dark has a warm aura and a warm brown tone that is vaguely reddish, very similar to mummy brown, and is used to achieve striking contrasts and give a marked depth to a drawing. Sepia Dark is the perfect pencil for hatching, chiaroscuro effects and to add intense details. The high concentration of pigment guarantees maximum intensity in rough sketches and tonal work. Sepia Dark pencils are made with real cedarwood and feature a 5mm diameter core.
Sepia Dry Pencil
- Made of clays and iron oxides of different shades combined with plant-based binders
- Very friable and fluid, it’s easily to blend with fingers and paper wiper
- Can be blended from its full, saturated tone to a mere veiling
- Rich in pigment, the 5mm core is fragile due to its purity
- Can be erased with a kneaded eraser, proportionally to the intensity of the stroke
- Sharpen with knife and shape lead with a scraper or sandpaper
- Fixative spray is highly recommended
Sepia Oil Pencil
- Made with the same ingredients as Sepia dry pencils with minimal waxes added
- Same high concentration of pigments used in the dry pencil
- The high level of oil allows for a smooth application, which is ideal for primitive sketching
- Full-bodied, defined and rich strokes for total coverage on paper
- Almost unerasable but can be diluted/blended with a brush moistened with linseed oil or other oil mediums *recommended to use with canvas or high-quality artist paper: always test your surface first before final artwork
- Not blendable but can be layered into different tones by adjusting the pressure applied
Carbon Pencils
Carbon is the perfect pencil for sketches and drawings where a particular intensity of the stroke is needed. Compared to charcoal, which is totally matte, Carbon leaves a semi-opaque black mark. Bring out the natural shine by increasing the pressure of the stroke.
The natural wax binder ensures the pigment adheres perfectly to paper, particularly rough paper. Light-grain paper allows for intense, smooth and uniform blacks. Carbon is partially blendable: it can be drawn across the paper but only for short stretches as it rapidly lightens out.
Carbon Extra Dark Pencils
Recommended for giving exceptional intensity to drawings, and for defining volumes and areas of deep darkness. Combined with a white pastel pencil, it creates deep chiaroscuro effects in decisive contrast with the highlights. This pencil combines dry matter with natural and synthetic oils to obtain the most strong and powerful black available among drawing pencils.
Carbon Extra Dark is totally covering on any type of paper due to the richness of the formula. Hot pressed paper is perfect for complete coverage; whereas, the cold pressed and rough grain papers are ideal for unrefined sketches.
Carbon Pencils
- Made from the perfect combination of charcoal powders, natural graphite, oils and pure waxes
- More resistant and harder than charcoal
- Obtain dark, velvety tones, and very defined contrasts
- Dense, rich and partially blendable
- Easy to sharpen
- Can be erased with a kneaded eraser (proportional to the intensity of the stroke)
- Fixative spray is recommended
Carbon Extra Dark Pencils
- Made with right balance of natural charcoal powders in high concentrations, natural graphite and a minimal amount of Carbon black pigment (to increase the intensity)
- Due to the presence of charcoal, the stroke is powerful, solid, uniquely defined, indelible and homogeneous
- Allows for full, uniform coverage as well as precise details
- Not very blendable but can be layered
- Partially soluble with water or solvents due to its mixed nature
- Easy to sharpen with sharpener or knife
- Fixative spray is recommended
